Buildings we love:
We asked our Associate Director, Matt Dawson to speak about one of his favourite buildings
“Favourite buildings as modern architectural inspiration are generally those that offer simplicity, good proportions and a strong sense of place.
One favourite is the National Library of France, Paris, designed by Dominique Perrault Architecture. It has a sense of serenity whilst cornered by four large, glazed volumes providing urban presence and grandeur. The external façade detailing is nicely handled; delicate and creates a subtle feeling of depth, light and shade. This concept carries through to the inside. In the sunken void is a fantastic greened courtyard; so unexpected and different from the hard exterior.
On a contrasting vibe the Sagrada Família in Barcelona and surrounding landscape emotes fond memories from many visits over the years spending time with family and friends, which has to be a sign of a good building, and sense of place, ipso facto, the favourite building perhaps should be home, or the pub?
