posted: 5/02/25

Next in our staff spotlight series is Oscar Henery. Oscar joined Hodder and Partners in August 2022 and has since played a key role in projects like Alfreton Road. His dedication and attention to detail have made a real impact on the team. We’re also pleased to share that Oscar achieved his Part 3 qualification at the end of last year, a well-earned milestone!

◾ What’s your favourite movie or TV show?

I loved Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, if Architecture doesn’t work out for me I’m buying an RV!… Or probably just get a job at Cinnabon

◾ What’s your favourite part of the design process?

Previously I have really enjoyed the initial design and planning phases of a project, it’s a chance to be as creative as possible into realizing a clients wants. Recently however, I have been able to do a lot more technical work which has been really interesting, working with different systems to create details. These later design stages have been important to get right so those initial creative design choices can be implemented into the final construction.

◾ What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

I speak fluent Italian. Unless you’ve had a conversation with me, in which case it won’t be a surprise, as I tend to mention it any chance I get.

◾ What inspired you to become an architect?

I wanted to pursue a career that offered a sense of continuation, and architecture seemed like the right choice. It’s a profession that challenges me in a variety of ways and continues to do so throughout my career, as the industry is always evolving. Architecture also provides the unique opportunity to work on projects from a broad perspective, such as master planning and shaping areas of the city, while still allowing me to focus on the smallest details and connections.

◾ How do you unwind after a busy day at the studio?

I’ve started doing a little yoga each night as a way to shut off and relax after work. I’ve found that I’m about as flexible as a log, but by this time next year, maybe I’ll be able to touch my toes.
