The Construction Industry Council (CIC) will be at COP26 on 11 November to present on ‘Carbon Zero: the professional institutions’ climate action plan’. The presentation is in support of the Construction Leadership Council’s Construct Zero session which will take place in the Green Zone as part of the COP26 Cities, Regions and Built Environment Day.
The built environment and construction sector accounts for 38% of global carbon emissions and it has been estimated that collectively we build the equivalent of a city the size of Paris every week. At COP26, government and industry have a crucial opportunity to discuss and agree tangible commitments to reduce carbon emissions and invest in the future.
CIC’s contribution to COP26 will be focused on the climate action plan which coordinates the efforts of the professional institutes in the built environments in meeting the UK government’s 2050 net zero emissions targets. Our Founding Director, Stephen Hodder MBE, Chair of the CIC Climate Change Committee responsible for coordinating the plan will be presenting on behalf of CIC.
The Construction Leadership Council session brings together Construct Zero partners including CIC to show how industry is advancing the importance of retrofit, materials, and professional services in delivering Net Zero. It will also see Business Champions identifying some of the challenges they face and give opportunities to share best practice. There will be a chance for the audience to put questions to the speakers as part of a panel debate.
