posted: 29/04/22

We are pleased to announce the Welcome Building has achieved two awards in this year’s RIBA North West Awards.

From a short list of 10 projects the Welcome Building received an award as well as the RIBA North West Sustainability Award.

The judging panel noted: “With landscape renewal and sustainability at its heart, the project embodies post-pandemic offerings for social engagement and wellbeing through an intelligently delivered solution to amenity.”

Stephen Hodder said ‘Delivering the Welcome Building has been a remarkable collaborative journey for the practice. Winning two RIBA awards for this project is a huge testament to the work and dedication the project team has given. I’d like to thank the judging panel, the excellent design team, BAM Construct and The Royal Horticultural Society, a truly wonderful client. An astonishing 350 000 visitors have now passed through the building since it opened to visit the glorious gardens in the City of Salford’.

Nick Wright, Project Associate said ‘It has been a privilege to work on this unique project alongside such a fantastic client, contractor and design team. To win the RIBA North West Sustainability Award alongside the RIBA Regional Award is demonstrative of the sustainability aims of the RHS. Congratulations to all the winning and shortlisted projects.’
