Our proposals for Gateway House, Manchester won the ‘Un-built’ category in the Manchester Society of Architects’ Awards 2011 announced last night.
Gateway House, adjacent Piccadilly Station, is often a visitor’s first impression of Manchester and now looking a little tired with a public realm unfitting to an international city. The project was won in competition in 2009 and will shortly be submitted for planning.
The mixed use project comprises the refurbishment of the iconic Gateway House into a 270 bedroom hotel above the existing ground level of retail, together with a new 40,000 sq ft office block over 8,000 sq ft of retail space facing Ducie Street. A new 3 storey gym is also proposed to the rear of Gateway House.
