We asked our Associate Director, Nick Wright to speak about some the details he loves about Royal Horticultural Society.
“The initial concept of a large space which could flex to seasonal demands covered by a statement glulam diagrid roof could not have been achieved without all of the hidden details. It was vital that the space was not cluttered with servicing whilst ensuring the project met the increasing demands of a highly sustainable and futureproof building.
The highly glazed façade, intended to flood the spaces with natural light and provide glimpses to the landscape beyond, presented a challenge in distributing services without interrupting the sightlines. A number of strategies were developed including service runs within curtain wall mullions, containment integrated in to the underside of the glulam beams, a perimeter trench and column containment.
This level of seamless integration could not have been achieved without strong collaboration between design team, client and contractor”
